IS THIS THE RIGHT TIME FOR YOU TO BUY A 2012 BAJAJ PULSAR 220 DTSI?

Just yesterday, we brought you a story in which we described how Bajaj Auto has stopped production of the streetfighter or non faired variant of the Pulsar 220 DTSi even as the arrival of the new flagship 2012 Pulsar 200 NS impends. Now, with the new Pulsar 200 NS just around the corner, many motorcycle enthusiasts in the market for an affordable yet powerful and sporty motorcycle will be wondering whether it would be a good idea for them to wait for Pulsar 200 NS or simply go ahead and buy the current air cooled 220 DTSi. This story will aim to address just this.

Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi

At the outset, Bajaj has been non committal about stopping production of the air cooled Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi. Therefore, it could mean that the Pulsar 220 might be produced until a faired version of the 200 NS arrives. Talking of which, during the unveiling of the 2012 Pulsar 200 NS, Bajaj Auto also hinted at a faired version of the motorcycle to be launched in the future. Once that happens, it would be quite logical for Bajaj to discontinue the air cooled Pulsar 220 DTSi. Therefore, it seems that the air cooled Pulsar 220 DTSi’s days are numbered.

Once the Pulsar 220 goes out of production, resale value of the motorcycle could tumble, as has been the case with most motorcycles whose production has ceased. Also, most companies stay tight lipped about their future products so that it doesn’t affect the sales of their current offerings, which is also perhaps why Bajaj has been mum about the future of the air cooled Pulsar 220, which also happens to be its current flagship motorcycle. Considering that the liquid cooled Pulsar 200 NS is much more advanced technologically, with the motorcycle being a massive leap in almost all departments when compared to the existing Pulsar line up, waiting for a month to buy the new motorcycle would be a good option if you have time to spare.
Also, if you intend to use the  motorcycle mainly for city use with the occasional highway jaunt thrown in, the Pulsar 200 NS will fit the bill quite certainly. On the other hand, if you intend long distance touring and would prefer some kind of wind protection, the current Pulsar 220 DTSi is still a good bet, for the motorcycle represents excellent value due to the sheer amount of performance and equipment at a killer price. All in all, buy the Pulsar 220 DTSi only if  you you’re in a tearing hurry, if you really need that front fairing for high speed wind protection and the projector headlamp that is very useful for night riding. For all other purposes, the 2012 Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS is a much better bet. Click here to read more about the upcoming 2012 Pulsar 200 NS.
