2013 TATA NANO DIESEL WITH AN OPENABLE HATCHBACK AND NEW BUMPER DESIGN RENDERED, IN A WORLD EXCLUSIVE

IndianCarsBikes has been ahead of the curve, quite literally, with emerging details about the Tata Nano Diesel, right from the time the diesel engined hatchback was being conceptualized at Tata Motors. We stuck our neck out and declared that the Nano diesel would deliver 40 Kmpl, which was later confirmed by a Bosch official working on the common rail diesel injection system for the car. We also brought you details about a new bumper and exhaust design. Now, we have more biggie coming up and our roving eye in the sky, EarthFusion, is at it again, this time around bringing you a superb render on how the Nano Diesel with the open-able hatch would look like and yes, we have visual proof to boot.

The Nano diesel will also feature a new bumper design, as we’ve detailed in ourprevious scoop story days ago. Coming to the open-able hatch, this is a long standing demand that Nano owners have been having and Tata Motors, it seems, has been working on user feedback very seriously. The open-able hatch will take the unconventional Nano a step closer at being a conventional car and in the process, the acceptance of this car could go a few notches higher. Also, the new bumper on the Nano diesel has been designed to deliver better heat dissipation as the car will retain the rear engine layout.

Also, Tata is working on rerouting the exhaust and in due course of time, all three changes are expected to be effected on the petrol version of the Nano as well. That said, we’re yet to have confirmation on this, though we’ll be digging around for information on this front over the next few months. Coming to the diesel engined Nano, the car will run the DICOR system, which will first be tested on the Tata Ace Dicor. The liquid cooled engine will be a twin cylinder unit, essentially half a block of the Indica’s 1,405cc diesel engine.

Given that the Nano is the lightest car in India, a diesel engine at the rear will only make this already fuel efficient car the most frugal car in the world. Though the Nano diesel is quite some time away from being into production, the encouraging bit of news is that the early test mules, replete with a turbocharger, have begun doing the test runs. Tata Motors will have its task cut out with the Nano Diesel’s NVH(noise, vibration and harshness) levels and it would be very interesting to see how the car shapes up.
